Room 17's Desert Adventure

One day Room 17 were doing research about deserts. Mack found out that there are heaps of pyramids in the desert; Jahnvi found out that there are camels; Viki knew it was really, really hot and there is lots of sand; Ji-Ho found out that there only a few water holes and that there are sandstorms in the desert; Joshua found out that it is the third harshest environment in the world and that scorpions and scarab beetles live there; Jacob found out that there are lots of cacti in the desert; Sam knew that dingoes live in the desert in the Australia.

Just as David was presenting his research about deserts the wind started to blow and suddenly a raging sandstorm blew up around us in the classroom.  When the sand settled we found ourselves standing on top of an enormous pyramid.  "Oh my goodness, where are we?" asked Catrina.  "We are in Egypt, of course," said Michael.  "We are standing on top of a pyramid," said Iona.  "I wonder which pyramid it is.." said Mrs McHale, just as the ground began to tremble underneath our feet.  "Ahhh," screamed Laura, "a big crack has opened up underneath us!" Suddenly, the whole group fell feet first through the earth, flipping head over heels, tumbling, falling and BANG, landing on our butts.

"It's dark. I can't see anything. Where are we?" Ewan and Justin yelled. Mrs Martel held up the torch on her keyring, which she just happened to have with her.  As the narrow beam of light hit the walls around us we saw lots of cobwebs, two scary mummies and we heard a skittering noise.  "What's that noise?" asked Johann.  "Aaaah, it's hundreds of scorpions climbing the walls, look!!" screamed Rion.

"I feel like I'm sinking into the ground. What's happening?" yelled Setareh.  Mrs Martel shone the torch down on the ground, only to see that Setareh and Ciara were both up to their knees in quicksand.  "Quick, pull them out," called YuHyeon, as he grabbed a stick and stretched out to rescue them.  "Well done, YuHyeon," praised Mrs McHale.

Patrick noticed a soft, glowing, light behind one of the mummies.  He pushed the mummy aside and called, "Hey look, there is an exit here."  "How do you know?" asked Iona.  "I know because it says 'EXIT' over the door," replied Patrick.  We all followed him through the door and found ourselves back in Room 17 again.  "Phew," we all sighed and we were all very pleased to go and have a drink after that scary, hot and dry adventure.
