Our day for the Grand Opening
We arrived at school this morning. It was a wet, gloomy day, but we didn't care because we were so excited to be starting our term in our new classroom. We were a bit confused as to what to do, but in the end we all gathered together in front of Room 19. We were led through the classroom by three girls to symbolise the purity and goodness that we wanted to bring into the class. We followed the girls quietly and slowly, taking our time to touch the walls and furniture to pass our positive thoughts and energy into the classrooms. We felt excited and thrilled to be here. The Kaumatua then blessed the rooms.

The latest on procedures for Monday morning
Hi Everyone,
I hope you have all had a fabulous break and your children are ready for a very busy term.
On Monday morning our new classroom block will be blessed at 6.30am (children are not expected to attend) and an official opening ceremony will occur at bell time. Your child will need to take their bags and leave them in the Hall Foyer when they arrive at school. The bags will then be collected when they have their morning tea break. Nobody will be able to enter the classroom before school. If it is raining the children will wait in the hall.
At 8:50am when the bell rings Rooms 17, 18, 19 & 20 will assemble on the courtyard outside Hillary block (our new classroom block).
The Kuia will begin calling the children through the building. The Pohi (young girls) will lead the four classes, girls first then boys with adults following behind.
9am rest of the school assembles outside Hillary Block (if weather permits otherwise in the School Hall) [Ribbon gets put up at this point].
Sarah Ward and Wendy Kristensen will together thank the children for putting their positive energy into the building, inviting Craig Faulkner (BOT chairperson) to speak.
The Kapahaka will perform and then Hillary Block children will sing He Honore to finish the proceedings.
If you could please discuss this procedure with your child so they are aware of what is happening when they arrive at school on Monday.
I'm looking forward to Monday and starting our learning in a fabulous new building :-)
Regards,
Johanna

A Message from Mrs Chambers about the opening of the new block..
Hi Everyone,
I have put a few photos and a song (we need to sing this on the first day back at school) on the blog http://pinehill19.blogspot.co.nz
We will be having an opening ceremony and blessing of the new building on the first morning back. Part of this ceremony is singing a song. I have found the song that Hillary Block (Rooms 17,18,19 & 20) will be singing. Please encourage your child to learn the words off by heart if possible.
Continue to work on those basic facts over the holidays - adding and subtracting to/from 20 and 2x, 5x & 10x tables including division.
It would be great if your child could also read everyday, in English or your own language.
Happy holidays
Regards,
Johanna
